Your diet and nutrition is the most essential part of any health regime. There are many different types of diets ranging from FDA Recommended Daily Allowances, Fad or Crash diets, Macrobiotic diets, Vegetarian diets, Low Sodium diets, and Low Carbohydrate diets. You can choose to follow a diet plan or just eat more of what is good for you and less of what is not. Many of these diets will teach you the proper food to eat and the right portions. They will also teach you how to change your lifestyle and habits. Changing your habits is step number one in attributing a healthier lifestyle.
There are several factors involved in nutrition. Calories, which tell the energy found in a serving of food. Calories should be adjusted up or down depending on whether you want to lose or gain weight. Sodium, which is the body’s salt intake. Look for products with under 10% of the RDA (Recommended Daily Allowance) for sodium. Fat and Cholesterol can be controlled by choosing lean meats and proteins, choosing products that contain no saturated fats or less than 10% saturated fats, and less than 7% of the daily cholesterol values. Proteins are necessary and should include at least one meat serving or a vegetarian equivalent of one meat serving. And finally, Carbs, Fiber and Sugars, you should choose products that have less sugar and more fiber. You should look for foods with at least 10% of the RDA for fiber and every 15 grams of carbs equals one bread/starch portion.
